Supporting trans* and gender-variant clients and colleagues: a workshop
The Society is pleased to present this workshop on supporting trans* and gender-variant clients and colleagues, led by Maddox Greene from The Youth Project.
Thursday, July 20, 2017
11:30 am to 3:30 pm (lunch included)
NSBS Classroom, Cogswell Tower
800-2000 Barrington St., Halifax
The workshop will include an introduction to transgender issues, providing an understanding of terms, definitions and what it means to be transgender. It will also cover challenges faced by the trans community and how to be respectful when dealing with transgender clients, with discussion on specific situations in which trans people interact with the legal system.
One of the Community Educators at The Youth Project, Maddox has been an advocate for the LGBTQ community for a number of years. He is originally from Newfoundland and now calls Dartmouth home. He received a degree majoring in psychology and sociology at Saint Mary’s University and now attends the Dalhousie School of Social Work. Maddox was on a committee that created the guidelines, ‘Creating Safer Spaces for Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Youth’, which launched in Nova Scotia in recent years.
Also at this workshop, the Society will launch its new Guidelines to Support Trans and Gender-Variant Clients, Colleagues and Employees.
