DUTIES

The incumbent in this position will be called upon to provide guidance and support to Registrars of Probate across Nova Scotia. The position of Registrar of Probate has both judicial and administrative functions in its scope and authority under the provisions of the Probate Act of Nova Scotia. 

In addition to providing guidance to Registrars of Probate across the Province, the incumbent will be responsible for providing training to Registrars in Probate Court administration duties.  

QUALIFICATIONS

A practicing member of the Nova Scotia Bar. The Senior Provincial Registrar of Probate must have a thorough knowledge of Probate law; experience in dealing with Probate matters; excellent writing and communications skills; the ability to interpret law and render decisions, both orally and in writing; superior organizational and administrative skills, and the ability to work with minimum supervision. A Nova Scotian driver’s license is needed as some travel will be required.  

The incumbent must undertake not to appear before the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia or the Probate Court of Nova Scotia during the term and to not practice with lawyers who do.

SPECIAL STATEMENT

This position will require an enhanced level of security screening for external applications. Offer of a contract is conditional upon the completion of all applicable background checks and confirmation of credentials, the result of which must be satisfactory to the employer or will result in the termination of your contract.
